Local and Multi-Location SEO.

Win the map pack in one market or in two hundred.

What does local and multi-location seo actually involve?

Local SEO is the work of ranking a place rather than a website. It targets map results and localized searches that appear when somebody nearby needs a service now. The inputs are a claimed and complete Google Business Profile, the right primary category, a steady flow of recent reviews, listing data that agrees everywhere it appears, and honest service area boundaries.

What This Is

Local and Multi-Location SEO, in plain terms.

Local SEO ranks a location. Search engines treat local queries as a separate auction with its own inputs: how far the searcher is standing from your door, how complete and active your business profile is, which category you chose, how many recent reviews you carry, and whether your name, address and phone number agree across the web. A website matters here, but it is one input among several, and it is rarely the one holding a business back.

This is for businesses with a physical presence or a defined service area, whether that means one location or several dozen. It is not national or global SEO. A plumbing company covering three counties, a practice with six offices and a franchise with two hundred are playing the same game at different scales. Every location competes in its own separate auction against a different set of neighbours, and winning one of those tells you almost nothing about the next one.

When it works, the phone rings from the profile before anyone visits the site. Direction requests rise. Calls arrive from parts of the map you previously never heard from. For multi location brands the change shows up location by location well before it shows up at brand level, which is why the reporting has to be built that way from the first month.

What You Get

The work itself.

Google Business Profile buildout and control

The profile is the storefront for a local search, so it gets treated like a page. Ownership verified, categories set, services and attributes filled in, regular and holiday hours correct, photos loaded and refreshed, products or menus where they apply, and questions answered by you rather than by strangers guessing on your behalf.

Category, service and attribute selection

The primary category decides which auctions you are entered into at all. Picking the broadest one to cover everything usually means competing with businesses that do it better, and losing to specialists. We choose the primary category against the calls you actually want, then use secondary categories and service listings to catch the rest of the demand.

Review generation, velocity and responses

Volume matters and so does recency. A profile holding hundreds of reviews from four years ago loses to one collecting a few every week. We put the request at the point in the job where customers are happiest, make it a link a person can use in seconds, and write replies to every review, including the difficult ones.

Citation and aggregator data cleanup

Your business data spreads from a small number of aggregators out into hundreds of directories, apps and voice assistants. When an old suite number or a disconnected phone line is sitting upstream, it keeps reappearing after you fix it locally. We correct it at the source first, then work down the list of directories that still carry weight.

Location pages and multi location structure

Each location gets a page a person would find genuinely useful: the real address, the staff, the parking, the areas served, directions, and reviews from that location. Templated pages with the city name swapped in are obvious to readers and to search engines. For multi location brands we also fix the URL structure and the store locator feeding those pages.

How It Runs

What happens, in order.

Audit every location and every listing

We pull each profile, each listing and each location page, and record what is wrong per location: unverified profiles, duplicate listings, wrong categories, mismatched phone numbers, closed offices still live. Multi location brands almost always have duplicates competing against themselves, and those get merged or removed before anything else begins.

Set categories, services and boundaries

We decide what each location claims. Category and service selection first, then the service area, drawn honestly. A service area stretched across an entire state to look bigger dilutes the relevance signal for the towns you can actually reach, and it enters you into auctions you were never going to place in.

Turn on reviews and profile activity

Requests go into the job workflow so they arrive without anyone having to remember. Responses are written on a schedule. Profile posts, photos and questions are kept current, because an active profile is treated differently from a dormant one and the difference is visible in the map results over time.

Measure by grid, report by location

Local ranking shifts with the searcher's standing point, so we measure across a grid of points around each location rather than from one address. Every location gets its own numbers. Those roll up into a brand view that shows which locations are carrying the group and which ones need attention.

Worth Knowing

Proximity is a ranking factor you cannot buy past

The most common assumption is that a strong brand can rank across an entire metro from one address. It cannot. The distance between the searcher and your location is a real input into map results, and no budget removes it. Somebody searching from the other side of the city sees the businesses near them. This is why grid measurement matters, why a citywide rank claim is close to meaningless, and why the honest answer to covering more of a metro is often another location rather than more optimization on the one you already have.

Reporting

Per location numbers, rolled up, never blended away

We report per location: map visibility measured across a grid, calls, direction requests and website taps from the profile, review count and how recently those reviews arrived, and the leads each location page produces. Those roll up into a brand view that keeps the individual locations visible underneath. The number we refuse to report is a single citywide ranking measured from your own office. It is the easiest number to make look good, and it describes the experience of nobody except a person standing in your car park.

What local and multi-location seo ask us first.

Why do we rank near our office and vanish across town?

Because distance from the searcher is a genuine input into map results, and it carries real weight. Somebody standing near your office sees you. Somebody eight miles away sees the businesses near them. That is normal, and it is not a fault in your profile. It also means a rank check run from your own office overstates how visible you really are. We measure across a grid of points around each location so you can see where visibility actually stops, then decide whether the answer is more optimization or another location.

Can we rank in a city where we have no address?

Only to a limited extent, and honesty here matters. You can define a service area and compete for localized searches on the website side for towns you genuinely serve. You will struggle to appear in map results for a city you have no presence in, because those results are anchored to a verified location. Registering an address you do not operate from breaks the platform rules, and profiles get suspended for it at the worst possible moment. The durable options are a real location or a stronger website presence for that area.

How many reviews do we need, and how fast?

There is no threshold that switches something on. What matters is being competitive with the other businesses showing up in the same results, and keeping a steady flow rather than a burst. A profile collecting a few reviews every week reads as an active business. A hundred reviews arriving in a single month reads as a campaign and can trigger filtering. We build the request into the job so it happens consistently, and we reply to all of them, because replies are visible to the next person reading.

We have dozens of locations. Does each one need a page?

Yes, if the location is real and staffed. A location page is where somebody checks that you are actually near them before they call. It needs the address, the phone number for that office, the people, the hours, the parking, the areas served and reviews from that location. What does not work is one template with the city name swapped in across forty pages. Readers spot it immediately, and it gives search engines nothing to tell one page from another. Fewer, better pages beat a full set of thin ones.

Is this the same as the SEO service you sell separately?

They share tooling and almost nothing else. Site level SEO makes a website the best answer to a category question, and it is judged nationally or across markets. Local SEO ranks a place: the profile, the category, proximity, review velocity and listing consistency do most of the work, and the website supports them. A business with a strong national site can still be invisible in map results two miles from its own door. If you sell locally, this is the service that produces the phone calls.
