Web Design and Conversion.

Fast, conversion-first sites, built and then actually maintained.

What does web design and conversion actually involve?

Web design and conversion work is the practice of building a site that loads fast, reads clearly and makes the next step obvious, then removing whatever stops visitors from taking it. It covers information architecture, page templates, Core Web Vitals, forms, the phone path, accessibility and the publishing workflow your team uses afterwards. Sites are built on WorkspaceCMS, with the build included in a plan.

What This Is

Web Design and Conversion, in plain terms.

Web design here means two things at once. The visible half is layout, typography, imagery and how a page reads on a phone held at arm's length. The invisible half is what happens between a visitor arriving and a lead landing in your inbox: how fast the page paints, how many fields the form asks for, whether the phone number is a tappable link, and whether the whole thing works for somebody using a keyboard or a screen reader.

It is built for firms whose site is a sales channel rather than a brochure. If your buyers call, book or fill in a form, the site is doing commercial work every day and small friction gets expensive quickly. A practice with a steady flow of inquiries rarely needs a redesign to look modern. It needs the leak found and closed. Most sites leak in the same two places, and neither of them is the homepage everybody argues about.

What changes when it works is that the same traffic produces more conversations. Pages paint sooner, so fewer people leave before seeing anything at all. Forms ask for less and fail less often. The path to a phone call is short on mobile. And your team can publish a new page without filing a ticket, which matters more across two years than any single design decision made at launch.

What You Get

The work itself.

Core Web Vitals and real speed work

We measure on real hardware and real connections, not a lab score on a fast laptop over office wifi. The work is usually image formats and sizing, font loading, third party scripts that block rendering, and server response time. The target is a page that shows useful content quickly on a mid range phone. Speed is a conversion issue before it is a score.

Form and phone path rebuild

Most sites leak at the form and the call. We rebuild forms to ask only for what qualifies a lead, validate inline, keep labels visible and confirm clearly on submit. Phone numbers become tappable links, click to call gets tracked, and we test what actually happens to a call placed after hours. Then we watch where people abandon.

Accessibility built into the templates

Color contrast, focus states, keyboard order, form labels, heading structure and alt text are handled in the templates rather than patched on later. This is not only a compliance question. Larger tap targets, readable contrast and visible focus help every visitor, including the one reading a cracked phone screen in bright sunlight.

Information architecture and templates

We map which pages need to exist, what each one is for and how a visitor moves between them, then build a small set of templates that covers the lot. Fewer templates, used consistently, means every new page inherits the speed, structure and accessibility work already done instead of starting from nothing.

Build and launch on WorkspaceCMS

The site is built on WorkspaceCMS. The build is included in a plan, and the platform runs on a monthly plan that covers hosting, updates and maintenance. Launch covers redirects from every old URL, analytics and call tracking, form delivery testing, and a check that search engines can crawl and render the new pages properly.

How It Runs

What happens, in order.

Find the leak before drawing anything

We start with what the current site already tells us: analytics, form completion and abandonment, call recordings where they exist, session recordings and a pass on real devices. The finding is often narrow. A slow first paint on mobile, or a form asking for a company size that nobody wants to hand over.

Structure first, then wireframes

Page inventory and navigation come before visual design. We agree what each template must do, what the primary action is on every page type and what evidence supports it. Wireframes get reviewed at that stage, when changing the plan costs an hour of discussion rather than a rebuild.

Design, build and test on real phones

Visual design applies to the agreed templates. Build follows, with speed, accessibility and analytics checked as the work goes rather than saved for the end. We test forms end to end on real devices, including the confirmation message, the notification email and where the lead actually lands.

Launch, then keep improving

Redirects go in, the site launches, and we watch the first weeks closely for crawl errors, broken form deliveries and any dip in inquiries. After that, improvement is continuous: a field removed here, a template tightened there, driven by what the data shows rather than by whose opinion is loudest.

Worth Knowing

A redesign is not the same as a conversion fix

Most firms ask for a redesign when what they need is a diagnosis. A new look changes everything at once, which makes it very hard to say what helped and easy to lose something that was quietly working. A site can lose inquiries after a redesign that everybody agrees looks better, because the form gained two fields and the phone number moved below the fold. The other half of the mistake is treating launch as the finish line. A site nobody on your team can update stops being updated, and a site that stops being updated stops being competitive within a year or two.

Reporting

Conversion rate, not traffic or a lab score

We report form submissions and calls by page and by device, form abandonment with the field people quit on, and speed measured from real visitors rather than one test run. The metric that misleads is the performance score. A site can hold a high lab score and still feel slow to somebody on a mid range phone on mobile data, because the score is a single simulated run. Bounce rate misleads too, since a visitor who finds your phone number and calls can register as a bounce. We measure the conversation, not the visit.

Do we own the website when it is finished?

Your content, copy, images and domain are yours and they are exportable. The running site is not: it is built and hosted on WorkspaceCMS, and the platform, templates and rendering framework remain ours. That is the trade, and we would rather state it before you sign than after. The build is included in a plan instead of quoted as a project fee, and the platform runs on a monthly plan covering hosting, updates and security. If you need a site you can lift and host anywhere, tell us at the start, because this is not that arrangement.

How long does a build take from kickoff?

For a typical service business site it is usually a matter of weeks rather than months, and the variable is almost never the build itself. It is content: photography, bios, service descriptions, case detail and whoever has to approve them. We shorten that by writing from interviews rather than waiting on a document nobody has time to produce, and by building templates while content is still being gathered. If you have a hard launch date, say so at kickoff and we will work backwards from it.

Will a redesign damage the rankings we already have?

It can, and the usual culprit is URLs. If pages move without redirects, or long pages get trimmed for a cleaner layout, the content that was earning traffic stops earning it. We map every existing URL before launch, redirect one to one wherever a page has a successor, and keep the copy that was doing commercial work even when it complicates the design. We then watch crawl coverage and organic entrances closely for the first several weeks so anything that slips is caught quickly.

Can our own team update the site without a developer?

Yes, and that is the point of the platform rather than a bonus feature. Pages, posts, images and most sections are editable without touching code. A site that needs a ticket for every change stops getting changed, and a site that stops getting changed drifts out of date while your competitors publish. We train your team on the parts they will actually touch and keep the structural work on our side, so nobody breaks a template while fixing a typo.

Is accessibility work worth it if we are not required to do it?

It usually pays for itself either way. Contrast, visible focus states, readable text sizing and properly labelled fields help everybody, including visitors on a phone in bright sun and older buyers with ordinary age related vision changes. For most of the firms we work with, those are core audiences rather than edge cases. It also produces cleaner markup, which helps search engines and assistants read the page correctly. We build it into the templates so it never becomes a remediation project later.
